Carrie Chapman Catt Award
Secretary of State Paul Pate has introduced the Carrie Chapman Catt Award this year to recognize high schools throughout the state for their commitment to registering students to vote. Iowan Carrie Chapman Catt was a national leader in the women’s suffrage movement and helped secure the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution.
“This year marks the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote. I can think of no better way to mark that important milestone than by encouraging young people to get involved while recognizing the sacrifices and accomplishments of suffragists like Carrie Chapman Catt.” -Paul Pate, Iowa Secretary of State
